5 Easy Steps to Level your Caravan
THE AUTOLIFT 5 EASY STEPS TO LEVEL YOUR CARAVAN GUIDE
The Redfoot AutoLift Levelling system for Caravans is Australia’s first all-electric, auto levelling system and can be installed onto many different types of chassis. When selecting a levelling system for your caravan the first requirement is the ‘type of chassis’ and ‘under chassis to ground clearance’. The most common chassis used on Australian caravans is made from RHS steel (Rectangular Hollow Section), these can come in different heights. Check your compliance plate if you are unsure. See example image below.
H 100mm x W 50mm
H 125mm x W 50mm
H 150mm x W 50mm
NOTE: If the caravan chassis is not made from RHS steel, contact us on what other mounting options we have available.
The second requirement is to know the under chassis to ground clearance. When measuring the under chassis to ground clearance unsure this is done on a flat surface and the caravan is level. See the picture below showing this.
The electric jacks come in two sizes, standard size or large size. Depending on the height and clearance measurements will determine the best solution for your caravan. (Note: jacks can be extended up to 120mm by adding the spacers provided in each kit.)
Standard Size Large Size
Standard Jack Measurements Large Jack Measurements
Retract: 300mm Retract: 375mm
Extend Max: 435mm Extend Max: 580mm
Including Max Spacers: 120mm Including Max Spacers: 120mm
Stroke: 135mm Stroke: 205mm
Optimum Deployed Clearance: 30-40mm Optimum Deployed Clearance: 50-60mm
The Redfoot AutoLift Levelling system for caravans requires drilling into the chassis and are designed to be permanently bolted to the chassis. There are few different mounting bracket options we can offer when choosing the correct system. This allows the installer the ability to offset any variations on height and where the jacks can be positioned along the chassis. Typically, we recommend mounting the jacks directly underneath the chassis and for high clearance caravans the use of spacers maybe required. The second option we recommend is the side mount brackets, this offers maximum clearance in travel. Below are examples of these installed.
These bracket combinations are available when ordering your AutoLift levelling system. If you are uncertain on requirements, feel free to contact us.
Under Chassis Mount Bracket (bolt-on) – Part No. TI-A-0008
Sidemount Chassis Off-set Bracket 50mm (bolt-on) – Part No. TI-A-0011
Sidemount Chassis Off-set Bracket 95mm (bolt-on) – Part No. TI-A-0012
Choosing the custom Redfoot AutoLift Levelling system for Caravans is as easy as 1,2,3.
Step 1. Determine the Chassis Type. E.g. RHS 150mm x 50mm (Check your compliance plate if unsure)
Step 2. Measure and confirm the under chassis to ground clearance as shown in the diagram below. If your measurement is above 340 mm then the AutoLift system can be installed underneath the chassis. If the caravan chassis is lower than 340 mm you will require the use of the side mount brackets. For chassis that measure higher than 560mm the use of additional spacer brackets will be required, contact us directly if you are unsure on your clearance measurements.
The 50mm bracket spacers are optional and is only required if the clearance of your caravan exceeds 560mm.
Step 3. Now compile your results from steps 1, 2 and 3 and select the appropriate Redfoot System based on the option selection drop downs above. E.g. xx xxx xxx
Investing in a Redfoot AutoLift Levelling system for caravans will bring years of added enjoyment and improved lifestyle with your Caravan. The system prices are set out above. In addition to the system prices will be freight and that depends on where you live but generally ranges between $100 to $150. The Redfoot systems are delivered in environmentally friendly packaging that is boxed a placed on a skid (half pallet). This ensures every system is well protected during shipping.
The Redfoot systems can be DIY installed provided there is a good level of mechanical skills available, and access to a mechanical workshop with suitable hoists. We provide a comprehensive installation manual.
We recommend the installation is done by one of our approved installers. Not all installations are the same, so a solid level of mechanical knowledge is required. Contact one of our authorised installers for a customised quote. Different installers have different cost structures, e.g. Sydney costs versus say more country areas where costs can be lower. Secondly, not all installations are the same. For example, there can be existing obstructions such as water tanks, plumbing or spare tyres. In this case they maybe extra works required to accommodate these variations. Best thing is to talk with your installer about the installation costs upon inspection or prior to quoting the job.

Bracket Locations
When installing the Redfoot Levelling AutoLift system to caravans you must always attach the brackets to the main parallel chassis rail or A-frame. Location points can vary and we recommend attaching the rear jacks no more than 1.5m behind the rear axle. We recommend the front jacks be installed in the area where the A-frame meets the parallel chassis rail. Important: Never attach brackets/jacks to sub frame or where the existing stabiliser legs are positioned. See image below:
How to measure: Firstly, position the caravan on a flat, hard ground surface. Once you have positioned the caravan you will then need to level the caravan using the jockey wheel. Using a measuring tape, ensure the chassis is of equal distance to the ground both front and rear. Record the measurements as you will require these later. See image below:
There are two different sized jacks, set to different set clearance heights. The set clearance is the distance between the bottom of the jack foot and the ground when the jacks have been deployed. This is how you measure the correct size jacks for your caravan. Make sure to consider the size jacks you have in the kit provided.
In each kit you will receive 10mm, 20mm and 40mm spacers to expand the jacks up to 120mm in additional length. The spacers have been designed to allow you to achieve the desired set point once the jacks are mounted to the brackets bolted to the chassis. *To adjust the jacks with spacers, refer to the Redfoot Levelling AutoLift Installation Manual
When measuring from the under chassis to ground, you must include the set clearance space recommended. Example: If you have measured an under chassis to ground clearance of 360mm, the desired outcome will be:
Standard Jack Length = 300mm. Set Clearance Required = 40mm. Add 1x20mm spacer = 20mm.
